This
80 MW facility is also coming up at Gummidipoondi about 55 KM's from Chennai
city and is located on 70 acres. The site is about 30 KM from the Ennore
Port and about 45 KM from the Chennai port and located just off the National
Highway to Calcutta. OPG Power Generation is being established as a coal burning plant, configured to use both Indonesian and Indian coal and thus able to use coals of a wide range of moisture and calorific value. This inbuilt capability/flexibility in boiler design is a reflection of the OPG philosophy to assure low cost and uninterrupted production of power for its customers.
The equipment is under manufacture, having been ordered 15 - 18 months ago, with BHEL supplying the turbine and Ansaldo Caldaie the boiler. Financial closure is complete, progress payments made to the manufcturers, environmental and other approvals are held and civil works under way at the site.
The project will commence production by the second quarter of 2009.
